CNG is becoming more popular throughout the United States. The greatest thing about CNG is that it can be fitted to almost any car or truck. However, the start up cost has been holding people back. The current cost to convert a car is about $7,000. Even though technically you can make that money back in a little over a year in savings from fuel cost people still are having a tuff time pulling the trigger. So with the help of Chesapeake Energy, 3M is trying…

Stanford is developing an “Electric Highway”

Stanford University is working on a highway that will charge your car as you drive. The process will be done through coils that are in the road as well as on the car through a process called Magnetic Resonance Coupling. The coils will work through a frequency much like the wireless charging pads that are becoming more and more popular for cell phones.  Through these processes batteries are able to be charged from a distance and without physical contact to a power source. This could take a while to implement but it is an exciting new way to get around.

This will only get you an 80% full charge but it will for sure make the vehicle more economical to drive around town.

DFW Taxi Cab Debacle….

Posted on 02 Feb 2012 at 12:03am

I learned some new news at the DFW Clean Cities meeting the other day. Concerning, the taxi cab CNG problem at DFW Airport. Basically, the issue is that DFW International Airport would like to do their part to increase awareness of CNG while also incentivizing taxis to run on cleaner fuels. DFW will do this by letting the taxis that do, switch to CNG. Move to the front of the line while waiting for new fairs. By converting to CNG the taxi companies stand to make quite a bit of money after the initial investment has been paid off by fuel savings. So…
